Repacked the Jards AGAIN.

My Jards are so loud, I find it hard to believe there is any packing in there.

Please excuse my ignorance but just how do you go about removing the baffles from the Jar mufflers to re-pack? Thanks.

There is 2 pop rivets on each side, you drill them out and theoretically the baffles should slide out. But if the fibreglass has blown out and they have a bit of soot in there,it may take some persuasion with a slide hammer.
Try youtube, there is various baffle removal videos on there.Put in something like "removing baffles" or "repacking baffles"

As for replacing the rivets,I used some self tappers with a coating of high temp silicon to stop them ratting loose.

PS-You can see right through mine, no baffles I could see.

You can see through to the other end because the sound deadening material is wrapped around the baffle tube on the outside.
There are a number of ways the sound waves can be directed through the baffles to lessen the noise or cut out certain sound frequencies.
The jards dont lessen the noise all that much, they take out the higher notes. This gives you the much desired low down growl or rumble.

At 5000 you have plenty of klms left, but there are ways of quietening them down with minimal loss of power.

Yes, they certainly do rumble, I love the sound, but on a 4000 mile trip last fall it got a bit old. When I do my Carpenter package I may go with their pipes, still up in the air on that.

Ear plugs are the go,but I dont find it too bad with a full face helmet. I doubt the Brutes will be any quieter, probably the opposite, but I havent heard them yet.
