I completely lost the rear brake on my early morning ride today. Inspection showed that the rear brake line just blew out. The bike is an 05 and I have never changed out the brake fluid. The manual says it should be changed out every two years regardless of mileage. I guess it serves me right for neglecting maintenance. I will replace it with an SS line.

In the pic you can see the blowout where the brake line goes from dirty to clean. Not surprising that occurred where the line was closest to the engine heat.

Have made a note - change brake fluid every 2-8 years. ;) Good to hear it wasn't more serious mate.
Don't look on as being neglectful of maintenance but rather testing the limits of durability.

That is how I see it too.;)

I didn't realize the brake was gone until I was coming up to a stop sign fast and had to brake quickly which is usually the only time I apply the rear brake to help out the front brake. The front brake did its job just fine on its own but it certainly was an oh sh*t moment.

Time to flush out the front lines too. The rear line should have been stainless also.

I replaced the stock rear brake line with a stainless line, but now am thinking that was not such a good idea. The stainless line is much more effective than the stock line and so it is much easier now to lock up the rear wheel. I think if I was going to do it over I would just put another stock rear brake line in.
