Just wanted to let everyone know that RamAir has come up with a 3rd revision of their R3 air filter (TR-111), which finally seems to address all the fitment concerns with the previous version.
I bought one of the first revised ("v2") versions of the filter in May '15. I recently removed it for servicing after 15k miles, and was disappointed to find out the supplied clamps had dug into the rubber throttle body mounts even though I had tightened the clamps only very loosely:
The sharp edges underneath the clamp seem to be the culprit:
I contacted RamAir about the problem, and they promptly sent me a warranty replacement. I was positively surprised to see the replacement filter has a completely redesigned base! Here's a photo of the "v2" (top) vs. "v3" (bottom) filter:
The v3 filter base is made of much harder/sturdier rubber, and feels very similar to the OEM rubber parts. They have also redesigned the locking grooves inside of the rubber mounts, and the filter now sits perfectly over the throttle bodies. The fitment is so good and snug that I discarded the hose clamps altogether, and just used some wide zip ties instead. In retrospect, I probably should've done the same with the v2 filter, but I didn't feel fully confident with the seal to the throttle bodies without the clamps.
For anyone that's still on the edge with RamAir because of the earlier cracking problems, this new design looks like it should fully and completely address them.
