Well, I had another one come off today.

Out for a little ride and on the last 10 miles from home, I coming up through the reservation. On a nice two lane road had a little car tailing me as we passed slower moving traffic. Finally decided to put some room between myself and the little blue car so I cranked it up to between 104 and 110 for a mile or two. Shut it down as I got to my neighborhood. Turned a couple of corners and upon turning onto my street I feel the **** thing pop off and heard it hit the ground. Luckily, no traffic and I was able to make a u-turn and pick it up. The last time I lost one I didn't realize it until I had stopped. So, instead of a few hundred to replace it, I just need some touch up paint for the scratches.

If anybody has found a better way to secure these **** things I'd sure like to hear it. With the first one I lost one of the rubber grommets came off. This time both were still in place, the **** thing just got sucked off. I know it was on tight before I left as having already lost one, I always check.

I feel your pain, but you're lucky you found it undamaged.

Whenever I remove the side covers, I make a conscious effort to really snug them back in tight. That's my trick for ensuring they stay in.

Other than that, new grommets?

Try some Spray Adhesive to the male end before "popping" it into place...will need a little pressure pull to come off, which is a good thing!

There's a good idea!! I'll give it a try, they rarely need to come off anyway.

Thanks.

Yep what he said,,,,. Harry. Just FYI only, I checked my bars and they have the same amount of up and down movement you have. It's normal. It's the way the mounts are designed. It's Triumphs way of attempting to isolate vibration from the bars. My point exactly,,,,we need a six speed!

Hey Dennis, you're right about the bars. I stopped by a dealer earlier this week and a new one has almost exactly as much play as mine. I had their lead mechanic check mine and he agreed it was fine. He did tell me that they have removed the rubber bushings and replaced them with solid mounts for one of their customers. I didn't ask how much. As long as its not a problem I really don't mind. I only notice it when pushing it around the garage.
