Replacing the stock wattage with higher wattage bulbs will ultimately cause you problems. If you keep doing it you run a chance of frying the wiring. Don't ask how I know.

From my experience those weak-a$$ lights do nothing for lighting up the road. Their only real value is in making you visible to others. And to that end, I'd suggest installing yellow bulbs. Those will stand out in a sea of white lights.

Yeah if you want to see better, replace the headlight with LED. Preferably the JW Speaker adaptive. But they're way (too?) expensive. But a $160-ish Truck-lite doesn't suck, for the budget minded, and it's definitely DOT approved.
