R3 tires

I must be doing something wrong - The Cobra front has lasted LESS than a Metz. A bit odd too - as it's substantially more worn on the right than the left. OK maybe I'm riding harder.

Looking hard at putting an AVON 140/80 on the the front.

Two options

AM26 which is a universal front/rear tyre a "V"
AV46 which is a rear tyre (just fit it backwards) and "Z" rated.

Both spec'd to fit a 3.5" rim.

Load ratings? Are they up for the R3 weight?

I have put on 4000 miles so far on this trip from Tacoma-Seattle, WA to Key West, FL & The Wall in DC. Put on brand new Excedra Max rear and Michelin front when I left. Have spent the last 5 days running the Arkansas twisties.

The front Michelin is ALREADY AT THE WEAR BARS !!! Will definitely not purchase another. 4000 miles on a front is unbelievable to me. I have used up rears in 4000 (Metzler) but never a front!

I shall try an Avon on the front next, when I find a shop along the way to the Smokeys. Just my 2 cents worth for information purposes . . .

Please add the model number of the Michelin so I can add that to my list of tires NOT to try !

Is that the Michelin Commander 2 in a 140/75/17 which Triumphill and others have been giving glowing reports about, I ask as I was about to order one in the next couple of weeks, how's the Excerdra Max holding up?

There are a lot of people on here running Excedra Max's. I can't say I've heard one complaint. If anyone has just cause why this man and tire should not be joined in riding bliss, speak now or forever hold your peace !

I like the way the 240/55 R16 Excedra Max handles & corrects speedo to match GPS.

My 1st Ex Max went 7,000 miles...cords were then showing.

My 2nd & 3rd got punctures in the big horizontal tread...
While riding with Yogi last year, he also got a similar puncture in his Ex Max tread.

Could be coincidence? But I just put on a set of Avon Cobras for a change of pace.

give Wheeler's a call & tell him what you want...he'll get it & install it for a resonable cost.

I would stop riding with Yogi (BooBoo too)

Guy came in the other on his Hyabusa. Showed me his front tyre and said he thought he should replace it even though it was only about 25% worn. Probably less actually. When I asked why he said it had 27,000 km on it. It was a Michelin Pilot Road 3. After we all made the obvious joke about needing to have the front on ground more often he said he was changing it simply because he was worried it had been through too many heat cycles.

That's some amazing mileage from any tyre on a heavy bike. Must say other people have nothing but good comments about the PR3, especially as supreme wet weather tyre. Sadly not for us.
