Figures!!..........Dealers need to start understanding that most of the blokes that buy these bikes probably have more knowledge than they do about the intricacies of the bike. I asked my old dealer aboutlots of things I came across on this site and they had no clue...in fact.....I knew **** before they did about recalls and problem parts and such......Good luck.......tell him to put the old tune back in and dont touch anything else!!
hate to say it but you could be screwed. My Dealer asked me if I wanted the latest tune on my brand new 1998 Triumph Daytona (which was runnig perfectly). I didn't know any better and said go for it. Big mistake. I took the bike for a spin and immediately found a flatspot between 4 and 5K RPM. I asked him to load the old tune back in. He couldn't. I do not think the gameboy tells you what the current tune loaded is, and even if it does, he didn't notice. It took me a while to get the flat spot out.
You may need to disconnect the Gipro device and then reload the new tune. Good luck
Well, the dealer has had the bike and I got it back yesterday and am happy to report that it's running as sweetly as it was before they touched it
Apparently the 'mechanic' that updated the tune to the bike uploaded the tune for a bike with standard silencers and not the TORS that my bike has. Correct tune uploaded and all's well.
I have a 2005 Rocket III. After traveling 300 miles to the nearest dealer and them doing it wrong twice they finally got it ideling perfectly. While it was there they did a service too.
The bike ran great, they updated the newer tune the previous dealer forgot...it was nice. Then my oil filler tank o rings began leaking. I bought new ones and had a buddy who is a Harley mechanic install the new o rings. While he was in there he discovered the K&N Air Cleaner was filthy, not dirty but clogged almost solid, so much for the dealer servicing !!!
He cleaned the K&N and replaced it, he put in the O rings and all was good, but that little crush washer that goes into the engine case was now leaking. Had to buy another set of O rings and a new brass Crush Washer from England !!!
Got all that fixed, and on the way home the idle began sticking and now coming down to normal. It did that one time and was cured with the new updated tune. Now its back.
Could the cleaning of the Air Cleaner have changed the Air Fuel Mixture setting on the computer, and now it runs too lean ? Apparently they did the remapping of the computer last time with a filthy clogged air cleaner....
Would the 12 minute computer rebooting help this problem ? Is there anything I can do short of driving 6 hours one way to the Triumph Dealer ...AGAIN.
It can only be the new increased air flow that has now made the idle sticky.
Any suggestions ? Whenever I take the bike to the dealer he fixes one problem and causes 3 more...that's the average.
I would appreciate any suggestions you may have. Is there a programer out there I can buy and check the problems for myself ? the dealer seems to have to have a computer tell him what the problem is....can I buy a programer that will tell me the problems, and or allow me to download updated from the Internet to the programer to the bikes computer, just like the dealer does ???
You have mentioned several name brand of hand held programer/tuners for Triumphs...anything is better than loading up this heavy monster for that LONG DRIVE that always takes two trips at least to get things right.
