Ride
Triumphs, but no Rocket just now.
Starting this thread as a place to get an idea about what people want to do after RDU. Who's interested, what do they want to do and for how long? So start putting down your ideas. It would be smart to think about negotiating fair deals (if that's even possible) and accommodation. Anthony (Ponters) did a fantastic job getting 30 or so of his closest friends over there last year for their annual sojourn and it would be good to use his organisation and planning as a guide.

We need to coordinate the travel over.
Personally, I'd be up for something like 3 day's riding and a day or two "cruising around".
Ideally be pre-arrange at least a couple of home bases with cheap but comfortable accommodation.
Some, if not all, of the riding needs to be planned and mapped.

So there's a start. Who's up for it?

Me and Catherine are coming mate. Flyreels has offered to assist with looking at accommodation options. Reckon we should try and stay at that joint where my throttle cable snapped. Great joint , big rooms and that awesome buffet. And that pub where I locked myself out of the room at 2am .. ***c Tassie I just have bad luck in that place .. hahahaha... Maybe just do the ride you and me did , across to the West Coast via Cradle Mountain and across the middle to Hobart or thereabouts (do the Port Arthur/ Tasman Peninsula sightseeing) then up the beautiful East Coast... just my thoughts.

Yeah I reckon Strahan is a good overnight then hobart for two. theres an awesome day trip out of hobart that we can go back to. good place to stay in Swansea and up the east coast back to boat. depending on how much riding you blockers wanna do i did a rippa circuit 2 years ago. went clockwise from launceston up the northeast coast down east coast to Swansea for the night. Stunning place and got to watch dolphins from our rooms at break. across the guts to strahan for the night. (thats the buffet place tc) then up the west coast through cradle mountain back to boat.

depending on group size its an easy 600-700k a day or we can break it into 3 nights.

Just a suggestion of some of my favourite roads.

Getting off the Spirit first thing in the morning we could be in Strahan that day .. have a look around Launceston on the last day .. waiting to cross back over. Really good bike museum at Bicheno on the East Coast. Wineglass Bays pretty special as well. Be neat if we could do the Ghost Tour at Port Arthur .. you get to go into buildings closed during the day.. mean overnighting in Hobart or on the Peninsula .. Tasmanian Devil Park worth a squiz as well .. nasty little critters that they are.

Probably a 'how long is a piece of string' question...for the fellas who went recently, what were the rough costs of accommodation, ferry, etc?

Hunty is in btw....was gonna be 2up but that's gone south, might yet be 2up 'cos October is a long way off...

Given we're talking in piece of string terms, I'd say $1200-$2000 or even vaguer at $1000-$2500. More for 2 but not double. What do Ponters or TC reckon?

That's what I reckon. Lot of variables too - length of stay, poshness of accommodation, entry charges, whether meals are included. Personally, I happy enough at a pub, especially if they do this.
