Persuading D&D's into position

Need some install advice. I have a used set of D&D 3 into 2 pipes. The 2 pipes seem not to be slid onto the Y pipe far enough by about 1/2 inch, and the bracket that goes onto the footpeg mount is too far back by the same amount. Yes, obviously, slide them on more. I have no experience here. Any advice on tools or techniques, besides take it to a shop? Thanks.

You could also try a rubber mallot and lube all the connections with never sieze grease.

I used fine grit sandpaper when I put mine on. Got the junk off the Rocket's pipe and things went on smoother.
