Anyone seen Pelican cases modded to be panniers for Rockets or any other bikes ?They sound much stronger than the leatherlykes and are guaranteed watertight with O-ringed lid, but would require some mounting hardware.Styling is very subjective , guess they may catch the wind more than dedicated m/c panniers .[http://www.pelican.com/cases_detail.php?Case=1430]
Thoughts ,opinions?

Well, I wouldn't even THINK of putting those butt ugly boxes on ANY bike.
I've been looking at Honda Valkyrie bags and trunk for my New Red Rocket.

I thought about it because I've used Pelican cases for camera equipment on photo shoots and those suckers can take a beating. I saw, somewhere, a BMW adapter for Pelican cases but I couldn't tell you where.

In a more motorcycling spirit, New R3 (www.newr3.com) has the brackets for mounting the Hepco & Becker hard cases. I bought those and added the H & B Junior sidecases. Same effect as the Pelicans. Not cheap but what accessories for this bike are?

I'd highly recommend them. If you buy the larger cases, they'll take a full-face helmet sideways and they are of classical German workmanship. Watertight with O-ring seals, great locks, easy removal. The mounting brackets are clunky and larger than some others but, for a touring setup on the Rocket, they are amazing.

If you are interested, pm me and I'll send you photos.

The bike's a bit dirty but here's the Hepco setup:

The mounting kit is available at New R3. I order the bags from there, also, but I had to send an e-mail to Brent (sales@newbonneville.com).

The whole setup was about US$600 and each bag is 45 litres.
Hope that helps. /Bob

had a look at those easy brackets .It would make it easy to mount the pelican set up, though I was thinking of making it myself outta stainless, just hadnt figured the locking mechanism ,whether to go internally like the leather lyke do or the easybracket and ghost bracket way.Could just buy leatherlykes ,but i reckon a few shopping trips,(yes the ol' hippo gets used for everything!any excuse for a ride!) on the country road i live on(aka the goat track!) , and i reckon they would break around the mounting points. If anyone has any contrary experience about leatherlykes , please let me know , its just that I had read a few threads on the web that they are cracking , even with the recommended weight. Cant see the Pelicans breaking, even if they are a little industrial looking.

The other beauty ,please dont choke, about the particular pelican1430 cases , is they are top loading, avoiding the balancing act of shoving stuff in the side of panniers whilst theyre on the bike, and they come with a handle , where the Leatherlykes dont.Something reassuring about a padlock on ya panniers too.It does sound like I am talking myself into this , doesnt it?Save me ....before its too late!
