I'm interested in the autotune function. While you have a direct link to them, ask if the autotune function is available with the Rocket.

On the website it says under development for the PCV but that the autotune is available. Looks like $369.95 for the PCV and $249 for the autotune.

It's funny how they don't go into detail with the auto tune, I would expect that auto tune means that dyno tuning for the optimal settings and peak performance was no longer necessary ... but they don't say that.
I'm wondering if they have so much invested in their dyno tuning equipment and franchises, that they just don't want to come out and say it.
Because if that last little bit of fine tuning via a dyno and trained technician is still needed to get that last little bit of performance, what's the point of "auto tune"?
Everything they DO say about it leads you to make your own assumptions about it, but they never come right out and say "Dyno tuning ... thing of the past! Do it yourself and get a perfect MAP while you ride! Tweeking that last little bit of power is done automatically!"

Perplexing question huh?
Certainly makes me think.

..I'll give 'em a call tomorrow..the boys over on the Harley board seem to like the autotune feature..but as you know, that's a whole different animal..

The autotune install guide offers some more info. They recommend that you load a map into the PCV that is in the ballpark. Then with the autotune, you set the A/F ratio for certain RPMs. You can even have it wait until the engine reaches a certain temp before operating. I emailed them and asked if a PCIII tune will work in the PCV. I think I am going to order one and give it a shot. It looks like the WB O2 needs to be powered off of 12v switched power and grounded. You can also switch between two different maps on the fly if you buy the handlebar switch.

Regarding the dynotuning, they say that you should run it on the dyno to verify the a/f readings. I asked my dynojet guy about it last time I was on the dyno and he said pretty much there isn't a need to do it unless you wanted to get a base tune first. Otherwise it will trim out pretty much any map to the selected a/f ratio. The key is getting the right ratio in the right RPM range.

..cool..well, it's certainly beyond my skill level, but I anxiously await your results..I'm just now getting around to installing me preds, triple K&Ns, and tuneboy..with the help of my techno wizard computer geek neighbor of course....

I helped my son last spring install a new 2 into 1 exhaust and the new auto tune P/C in his 07 VRod. We had to install a new O2 sensor in each down pipe. This is what the P/C reads the A/F ratio from. It stated that the unit would learn your driving habits and patterns and adjust the A/F to optimize performance. The problem was that on his Vrod, it made it run like a raped ape ok, but it drank the fuel. On the 07 VRod the fuel tank is only like 3.8 gals. So every time we went for a ride he could only go about 100 miles or so. At 80 miles you better be looking for fuel. Now he could improve on that if he wanted to keep it under 3k rpm. Oh and I forgot to mention he paid almost 900 bucks for the P/C unit.

So I wonder if you will have to install a O2 sensor in each down tube in order for the unit to read the A/F ratios? Or if it only has one O2 sensor and it uses an average across the fuel rail to make the adjustments, And if it's like his and makes the needed adjustments on the fly, I wonder if your fuel economy will do the same thing and go to hell and a hand basket if you ride like I do. Just a thought.

There is a Harley only autotune and a universal. The HD only has two wb O2 sensors, since the HD's have one in each down pipe. The universal would be used on the Rocket and it uses a single O2. Jardines have an O2 bung in about the same location as the stock system does.

I am now getting about 28 mpgs since my latest dynotune, so I doubt it would get much worse. More fuel for more power.
