..update..ok, here's my deal..when I started my rocket up a few times before taking it up to Manaynunk (just to be sure it would), I noticed that the 'rattle' wasn't nearly as loud or profound as it was..I attributed it to being cold?..didn't really know, but I thought it was a little strange..anyhow, the service manager and technician at Manayunk explained to me that the cam chain tensioner is self adjusting..spring loaded with constant tension on the chain..as the chain becomes loose enough to allow the ratcheting mechanism to come over another notch and take up the slack in the chain,it does..makes sense to me, I'm no wrench....so there ya have it..it fixed itself..but at least it's documented with Triumph because they played the sound bite I had done when it was making a lot of noise..hopefully I won't have any more problems..and I also had the idle fix done, oil and filter change, and brake fluid change..so kudos to Manayunk Triumph in Phila..good people to deal with..now come on spring, I'm ready to ride..

Really!

RKT88,

Wow. I have experienced the same thing. Mine was really loud as my previously posted sound bite shows, and over the past couple of weeks it has completely gone away. I was just getting ready to take it in but now cannot hear the rattle at all. None. I will call the dealer and see what they think. I do have the diagnosis in writing commiting to a warranty repair, so I think that would cover me if it ever became a problem. Glad to see your post and see that someone else has experienced the same thing.

That is why there is an upgrade. Newly designed tensioner blades and a spacer behind the tensioner I think. Get it replaced under warranty if possible rather than wait and end up paying yourself. I took my bike in and the dealer manually retensioned the chain and the noise went away for almost a year then returned. Now it is in getting fixed and Triumph is coming good for parts and some of the labour and my bike was new in July 2004!

Your right TT, the new blades are the same ones the touring model has and the redesigned tensioner now has a spacer in it. They even replaced the bottom gear and key when they did mine a couple of months ago.
