oil change intervals ( Members survey)

Yep...once a season. I put about 5K miles per year but I think this is a bit of overkill. Synthetics just do not break down like mineral oils.
My new Mercedes recommends the same 10K interval. I don't believe that company would take a chance with oil related failures.

I use the Rotella Synthetic every 5K. I tried the AMSOIL in the past on a ZX14, but didn't like the sound the engine made after changing. Valves would tap until bike ran a few minutes.

A guy at work bought a 550 Honda new and rode it to work every day, rain or shine. If it snowed he used his feet as outriggers. Anyway, he mentioned he was going to change the oil over the weekend and I asked if he was going to change the filter too. Puzzled look. "It has a filter?" True story. Bike had 40,000+ miles on it at the time. A year or so later I did a complete tune up for him and took it for a test ride. 55,000 miles and it still ran fine. Next time I see him I'll have to ask him what finally killed the thing.

That's funny :spitcoffee:

A guy that I work with... remarked the same thing about his lawn mower recently. Lawn mowers are probably the most commonly abused gasoline engine on this planet.

well thats true. i guess being stowed away for several months over winter and the oil and petrol weren't drained. makes for milky oil and gummy carbs innit

I have a friend who once had a Pontiac and NEVER changed the oil at all! He would just keep adding as the level went down. The engine seized completely at about 25K miles!
