I went out after reading this thread and checked my 2 month old filter yesterday. The front was a bit loose so I removed the filter and checked everything...no issues at all. I must assume I had not tightened the front clamp enough, I know I went carefully due to comments. The rear filter material is showing some compression, and the Bear Claw is shiny there, from contact but nothing at all worrisome. I reset and tightened all 3 clamps a bit more snug, I figure that if one looses a bit so what, it can not fall off.
So far, I am very satisfied with the filter and I just love the induction noise. My only down side is strange but I have noticed a bit more fuel usage in town, maybe 5 mpg, highway is unchanged. I will admit to possibly being the cause as the throttle does twist a bit more to get me to 3K quicker so the induction noise increases.

I'm actually curious now as to how many of the failures happened (or were the worst) on the rear-most intake. Material fatigue is a thing, and if the engine moves back and forth constantly on the rubber mounts and pushes and pulls on the filter against the claw, it wouldn't even be surprising if there was eventually a failure especially with heavily tightened clamps.
I havnt gone back and checked but I'm fairly sure my series1 Ramair split on the front and centre rubber the rear was as new.

It's not rigidly mounted, it's rubber mounted, and if you rev it the entire bike moves. I have no doubt the engine moves a little side to side as well on the mounts. Whether or not it moves enough to cause failure of the filter is more debatable.
Just had the engine out of mine recently and I can assure you there are no rubber mounts

Guess I had it in my head somehow that the engine was mounted in a way allowed it to shift minimally in the frame due to vibration absorption. Well, if that's not the case then the material fatigue from the claw idea is probably not accurate, mea culpa.

I still have gen 1 with no issiues whatsoever. Took a bit to get seated when fitting and lifting the tank is a must. But having said that it was easier than some filter boots I've fitted on other bikes.
