Need TEXAS Help!

[QUOTE.="R3T-Too, post: 308686, member: 5489"]Hey Bull; I'm no expert on the area but saw that you were spending more time on 41 (ugly slab) than you should.

This is the route that I would recommend. Others may have better ideas, YMMV etc.

The last stop is the Stonehenge replica.

Edit: MY First route was incorrect.

Scott

I agree except not a fan of the stonehenge replica other than a place to take a break. Hwy 39 is my favorite over all three of the sisters. If you get tired of the twisties, 39 has an abundance of less adventurous sweeps along the scenic Guadalupe river.[/QUOTE]

There were miles of smiles on the three sisters. Sometimes I felt like a kid on an amusement park ride wearing a huge grin. H3ll, we're planning on going back in June for our anniversary.:)

But, there was also a lot of curves with negative camber, curves with gravel kicked up onto the road, broken asphalt, groups of pirates moving at a snails pace and power rangers trying to drag a knee as they pass in blind curves.

It may not rate as adventurous, but 39 may just be my favorite road in the area too.

I avoid the roads you show using through Dallas Fort Worth.
Maybe someone from that area could advise you better if your determined to pass though our little part of the world.
If you do come through; stop by & I'll fire up the grill and put some beers on ice.

But, If I was traveling from point A to B I'd avoid DFW altogether.

* I'd head west out of Sherman TX on 82 (grab a bite at Oma's Haus or Doc's in Muenster).
* In St Jo turn south-ish on 59 to Bowie and Jacksboro then
* 199 to 281 south and pick up the route you posted in Hico

THANK YOU!
Makes good sense. I made those changes.
Interesting that we'll leave Marble Falls, AR and ride through Marble Falls, TX.
Are you at the west of Ft Worth? Should we swing by and pick you up?

Muenster is worth visiting. And I agree to miss DFW if you have a choice. BUT! I do not care too much for the scenery of west Texas. If I were coming from Marble Falls AR, I'd for sure come through Paris TX, Tyler, Palestine, Round Rock and of course you'd HAVE to visit 6th St in Austin. Lots more scenic, piney woods and not desert like W TX. You will get enough of that when you get into the hill country.

I'm in far west Ft Worth.
If I had more time off work I'd love to go.

My home financial controller and I are spending our anniversary down there in June again.
Works out great, we spend a day in Fredricksburg going into all the antique shops and wine tastings at the area vineyards; then the next day we smash bugs and burn fuel.
Both of us go home feeling like we got the better end of the deal.

Stripes is right though. East Texas is a much more scenic area of the state.

Remember this one Steel?

They do look familiar. ;)

@R3T-Too @STRIPES
GRATITUDE!!!
REALLY appreciate the help and info and I have adjusted my route map accordingly. Only added 15 miles! :inlove
Any other "must see/do" stuff on the way?

For anybody spending the night in Fredericksburg, I'd like to recommend Rock View Cabins. Check out their website. The road from the cabins to town and vice/versa is pretty nice. And, from the front porch of the cabins, you have a nice view of Enchanted Rock.

Fredricksburg worth visiting! Check Google Earth. And San Antonio! Navigable canals downtown no less.

Also to any and all who elect to go and twist the sisters. I have yet to make a trip there (and I have made half dozen or so) and failed for there to be at least one life flight out of there during my visit. Just because the Sisters aren't as notorious as the "Tail", they will sneak up and bite your ass. I'd wager if they were compared and rated, the sisters would be more risky than TOtD.

That there info has me more excited than ever because I was extremely impressed with the technical levels of the Dragon.
Seriously though, I do appreciate the advice and shall be careful.

PS: I can't figure why so many folks reckon I would be in danger in those twisties??? NOT!
