NEED HELP - SPLUTTERING

Where exactly is the fuel filter on an R3 , is it in the tank ?
Yes. You have to take the tank off, turn it upside down, remove the plate on the bottom, and carefully remove the fuel pump/filter unit. When replacing it, make sure that you don't bend the fuel float arm, or your fuel gauge will not be accurate.

yes Sean contact Les as he has been using a Holden Commodore filter which is heaps cheaper and works just as well, filters need to be changed every 20,000 km according to Triumph, (most vehicles recomend 40,000 km) to be safe, I was not aware of this and ended up having to clean complete fuel system including injectors a couple of years ago

I can't entirely agree with idk............. sorry idk,

"YES" the filter is inside the tank but complete tank removal is not necessary.

I managed to prop the tank up using the tank stalk and very easily removed the filter/float assembly very carefully from the tank when the tank was still in situation.

You need to:-
a) suck out the fuel to a level below the hole where the assembly fits.
b) lift the tank.
c) unplug the electrical plug connect (that was the hardest job)
d) unbolt the fuel feed line
e) fit the new filter and reverse the operation.

Even I did it, so it can't be difficult.

@Wrecka drain it, take it off, do it properly mate no shortcuts. If the rubber seal leaks you'll curse for ever more cos you'll have to do it all again. Seriously it will be a pain if you have to do it twice.

No problems @Roy Casey. However, It is only one more bolt to undo, and two rubber hoses to slip off, and the tank will then come off and everything will be much easier to do. Worth the little extra, IMHO.

i would like to know how u rinse it out and have u been finding junk in the tank?
i try to use the same station most of the time for this reason of plugging the filter.

You are just lucky @Jandals.
