Nasty burning smell!

Hi, I was out on the bike yesterday when it cut out and died on me. I got a strong smell of burned out electrical components and on investigation it turned out to be the Datatool alarm unit had burned itself out. I was able to disconnect the alarm plug and rig up a temporary bypass to allow the bike to run (I'm an electrical/electronic engineer) but I wasn't getting any indicators or brake light! Now am I correct in thinking that when fitting the alarm unit, it's effectively wired through these circuits? There are a few other connections on the alarm unit besides the big black plug (which I bypassed) and I reckon they must be for the indicators and brake light. If my theory is correct then the original wiring must still be in the loom somewhere , trouble is I can't find them. Can anyone shed some light on this please? Here is what you need to bridge on the connector (just cut off the connector from the alarm & use it as your bypass plug)

So you just want to bridge 1 & 2 and 3 & 5.
Just leave about 2" or so of wire on the 1, 2 3 & 5 terminals and cut the rest off or remove the wires/terminals from the shell completely. Then splice 1 to 2 and 3 to 5.

There is output from the alarm to the left & right turn signals, however no brake light connection.
The turn signal outputs (7 & 8) are parallel outputs to the primary signals from the switch; they are not interrupts; so nothing needs to be connected to these to make the signals work normally.
I suspect you have probably blown the brake/turn/horn Fuse - Fuse # 4; whether that was from potentially mis-wiring the 7 &/or 8 connections, I can't say if that was the cause
But for sure, the only way to interrupt the Brake signal is to have the fuse blown.

The OEM accessory alarm is made by DataTool.
It is not a great system and there are better after-market options available. It's best (& probably ONLY) plus is that it is a plug n play kit.
But is notorious for falsing with the motion detector going off when unattended. Yes, it has an immobilizer, but not hard to bypass if you know how.
For me, alarms are nothing more than noise-makers that people ignore anyway.

Better security is a Disc Lock - I use a Xena XX14 which is not only a robust physical lock, but additionally has a built-in motion detector alarm which is SERIOUSLY loud 120db.

Thank you very much DEecosse for the info. I'll check my fuses and post up the outcome here as soon as I get a chance it's nearly 10pm Scottish time now so it'll have to wait until tomorrow night after work. Again, many thanks folks for all you input and advice.
The units is buried deep below the headstock and I have wrongly assumed that there was associated wiring coming from it, I suspect the other wires are possibly my indicators and I may have disconnected them in error. Results to follow soon.
