I have a spare claw and like what you did with yours. I read you had a tuff time making the holes. If you were doing it again would you try something other than a hole saw?
 
I'm not sure there's an alternative.
I was thinking marking out the holes using a template. Then drilling a series of holes inside the edge template mark. Then using a 3 inch cut off saw to cut from hole to hole then smooth the holes with a Dremel. Just a thought.

That might work, I did use a Dremel with a carbide burr and sandpaper wheels to true the holes.
