Maybe I didn't touch wood fast enough

They'll want to check the VIN. No harm in asking but I'd say you'll be on your own. Just remember it shouldn't be a huge job to get done - engine absolutely does not need to come out - and it is something you could do yourself (apparently).

I bought it 2nd with 16k on it. Now it has 103,000 k on it

Dealer did the gearbox update before I picked her up

Think Richards right , with those k's it's highly unlikely ( highly as in not a snowflakes chance in hell ) they'll come to the party. Shop around and it won't be bank breaking ... if you don't feel confident doing it yourself.

Good on you for having a go, you will need a 30mm socket and a rattle gun to get the clutch nut off.
If you have a look behind the basket on the top right side you will see if the spring is there or not.

What Les said, Good on ya it is not hard but a tad fiddly getting new spring on

Just done the detent spring on my 08 classic.Couldn't get hold of a rattle gun so made a simple lock up tool for the clutch. Two bits of flat steel .I made one leg longer so it could rest on crash bar, didn't have a welder so bolted the pieces together where they cross, worked great.
