Came out of my local Lowes store today and what was parked right in front two friggen Rockets I am getting really pi**ed off with the amount of Rockets in MY neck of the woods, as Matt Lucas would say I am the only rocket in the village(the brits will know what I mean) anyhoo went to a customers house and was met by a 90 year old Englishman now this man was in very good shape and what stories he had to tell two hours later I left his house.
He was a pilot in the RAF during the Berlin Airlift and the stories he told would make your hair curl, vet of WW11, korean War and a few others he could not talk about.
It was an honour to talk with him and told him he looks good to get his telegram(another brit thing)
Now Dave,
don't let you BP go up,
just take a break from work and go riding
on YOUR Rocket.
There's basically none up here,
take a week off work, hit the dusty trail and come up here.
Bet you a cold beer ya don't see 1 other Rocket till you get to my house...
Got an extra bed room and bed, you're more than welcome, and we'll go riding....
speaking of which, it's almost daylight and I'm off work today,
guess where I'm going.....
Oh yea, stop by Joseys on the way up and throw my 2 gallons in your bags on the way up.
Heck, bring his country ass with ya, he needs a ride too.
went to a nearby biker pub/cafe last sunday and there was another 6 there by the time we left. common as muck, think i need a honda 50 for a bit of exclusivity.. ten years ago when we moved to this village i was talking to a retired farmer across the road,he was 96yrs old at the time.he remembered a german fighter straifing a train on the railway a couple of hundred yards from our house. 2mls away there is an airfield that during ww11 had 2mls of american bombers parked there 3 in a row nose to tail,he used to go and walk down the rows of planes on a night. i was there 2hrs he was really interesting to listen to. he did'nt quite manage his telegram from the queen , sadly.
These guys have lived more & seen more action in 1 day than the thugs who hit on them can live in a lifetime. Like you say they have stories to listen to for hours, & keep us interested from beginning to end. We owe them & it is now our time to look after & care for them, not neglect & attack them for a few lousy quid in their pension.
I saw a another Rocket this afternoon in Front Royal, VA. That's only the second time I have ever run across another one in the wild. Saw a few at RAA 6 though I was wondering if it was anyone from this site?
another old bloke who i found amazing was in his nineties a few years back when i spoke to him. he was from just up the road in scarborough. he sold fruit off a barrow on the beach when he was seven. he remembers the german zepplin airships flying over and was there when the german battleships shelled scarborough. he was a heavy machine gunner in the trenches, him and his ammo carrier had the choice of prime position for field of fire over nomans land. he laughed and said " its funny but it was always where the officers happened to be standing " he obviously took pleasure in ordering them to move. when the war ended him and two buddies spent 3 days riding back to the channel on the log catcher at the front of a steam loco ! they don't make em like they used to.
Dave,,,,,,,,
You're more than welcome to come vacation at my place, but please PLEASE, PLEASE bring your FULL size kilt, not your mini kilt....
I just don't think I could get any sleep with all the women you'd have hangin' around wantin' a free show...
