LEAVING ON A TRIP

We will be leaving Las Vegas about 4:30 am on our R3T for a trip to Oregon and some places between here and there. Going up 95 to Beatty and Tonapah first and by then it will start to be light out. We will then take hi way 6 and 120 over to 395 and north thru Bishop Ca and up to Reno. We will visit in Reno for a bit and then head to Oregon. The weather is warm and this is this bikes longest trip so far. I bought another V8 Chopper in southern california a few days ago, I have 3 V8 bikes and a 3 cylinder one now as my disease progresses. This one was once mine about 4 years ago and the owner decided he wanted a biplane so he was selling some of his toys, I decided to buy it back but will probably sell it as soon as I regain my sanity.

3 times the Fun, nice clean lines on that one if it's possible the bike looks lean and mean , the F Truck in the background is in a colour we didn't get down here nice

Ken, this particular V8 Chopper is an older one than my other one. It is leaner because it has a smaller gas tank by one gallon and a smaller rear tire and narrower fender, also the pipes are inboard. To me it is a better looking bike, not so cartoonish as my other one. However the customers want a bigger back tire and a bigger tank. The tank on this one will only go about 85 miles until empty. Eighty miles is good enough as choppers are mainly in town bikes. The bigger tank will get about 100 miles. Engines and trannys and brakes are the same. The frames are slightly different to accommodate the larger tire on the newer ones. In my view a chopper is supposed to look good, they never were known for handling or being very comfortable on long rides.

There are no rear shocks because Choppers don't have rear shocks or anything else that isn't necessary to make the bike rideable. When I was in my teens and early twenties they didn't have front brakes, mirrors, horns, turn signals, front fenders, etc. thats why they were called choppers, everything was chopped off them that wasn't necessary and the rear fender was also chopped or replaced. Triumphs, Harleys and Indians were the bikes of the fifties and they weren't very fast. One way to make them a little faster was to remove everything that wasn't necessary which lightened the bike enough so that you could feel the difference in performance. Today in my opinion the V8 Chopper is the epitome of that concept.
