K&N1770s Air Temp Sensor Question

Haven't changed anything with the fuel or tunes yet. I thought maybe the oil too, but wondered why out of the cat box connections instead of the pipes? I'll be putting the new tune on tonight or tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.

goes into the cat box first gets burnt up there and leaks out befor it goes into the pipes just a guess as we do not know whther you have the real cat box or the empty one. watch the filters maybe as the oil gets suck off them it will stop. Could also be you oiled them a little to much for the irst time as K&N filters usually come pre oiled. Just brain storming even though it does not seem like I hve much of a brain.

The RC-2580's that I used are actually quite small in comparison to some that the others are using. The difference is that instead of direct mount on the throttle body, I chose to mount them to an airbox. This allowed me to move them approx 3" forward and provided the benefit of an airbox. The plenum area on the airbox allows all 3 cylinders to pull from a common area (keeping in mind that only one cylinder at a time is on the intake stroke)........ultimately this means you can work with a smaller filtration area.........my combined intake area still exceeds the factory touring airbox by nearly 50%. I am 6'2" and my knee is just behind the rear filter.....which is just where I planned it.

Thanks for posting this. I am going to try this exact mod. My R3 was purchased used and did not have a plenum, so I don't know what one looks like. How did you mount the filters to it? Did you have to do some machining and welding??

I have pics posted in the albums section and you can also take a look at the thread "scratch built airbox". Keep in mind my ride is a touring, and on the touring the "bearclaw" is much tighter. There was no way to direct mount the filters and make it look right so I made the airbox.

since your is a standard/Classic Rocket you might be able to set them straight on th ethrottle bodies. I think Nev just did one with a after market pipe and pulled 165 hp and 163 torque by the time he hit 5250.rpms. I might be off a little but not much so since you can take the bear claw off it mights be wirth a try. If not you can go the plunum look like D. did

Those Outerwears pre-filters get a bit grubby looking after a while, they tell you not to wash 'em (except with their whizz-bang special washing stuff, of course...) because you'll reduce their water-repellent ability.....

You wash yours in anything to make 'em look cleaner, or just toss 'em and fit newies?

Those Outerwears pre-filters get a bit grubby looking after a while, they tell you not to wash 'em (except with their whizz-bang special washing stuff, of course...) because you'll reduce their water-repellent ability.....

You wash yours in anything to make 'em look cleaner, or just toss 'em and fit newies?

I hand wash them and always carry a new one on the bike incase I get into a down pour. they seem to hold there color well or at least the purple ones. I have three of the black ones for the pipercross set up so I cannot state how the color will hold up on them. I do not use harsh soap just water in the kitchen sinck. shhhh don't tell the wifey

Quick update...Ignore the rough cuts, and I still have to trim out, but here's how they look fitted with the bearclaw! May still rotate the front one slightly.
And, no, I didn't damage the claw cutting it, it was a scratched/dented salvage I picked up for $20 off ebay (figured better to practice on)

Not to shabby my friend does you knee hit the rear filter?
Here's my first shot at cutting a old bear claw for Gracies Pippercross filter. I can see where I could make a few adjustments on the front and back for a tighter fit but maybe this will allow air to flow thru better. I need to make a shield for behind the filter to stop some of the engine heat from reaching the filter but for now I will ride and see how the fuel mileage is.



I will get a better picture when I roll her out into the sun.

Thanks! I'm hoping I can actually polished the few scratches left in that one out of it and keep my original intact? That piper looks nice! I'm really digging the sound of the triples! May have to fabricate some chrome caps for them though.
Have just enough clearance that I ride comfortable without hitting it. First few times, I'd tighten in for a curve I'd bump it plus I'm used to resting my hand on the side of the tank/claw, so kept hitting it with my hand too Starting to get used to it now though, and haven't ridden with the claw on yet...just finished grinding it down tonight. Figured if it wasn't in the way without the claw, definitely shouldn't be with the claw?
