K&N1770s Air Temp Sensor Question

Filters to big???

Dbutton, those filters look awfully big.
Do they hit your knee when you are riding?

The RC-2580's that I used are actually quite small in comparison to some that the others are using. The difference is that instead of direct mount on the throttle body, I chose to mount them to an airbox. This allowed me to move them approx 3" forward and provided the benefit of an airbox. The plenum area on the airbox allows all 3 cylinders to pull from a common area (keeping in mind that only one cylinder at a time is on the intake stroke)........ultimately this means you can work with a smaller filtration area.........my combined intake area still exceeds the factory touring airbox by nearly 50%. I am 6'2" and my knee is just behind the rear filter.....which is just where I planned it.

The SN2510's seem to work fine. STOCK bike as presented with Tors did 126hp. Now doing 165hp 168ft torque with Rics road legal exhaust BP premium from up the street and a set of SN2510's and 5 hours tuning. Making over 160 ft lbs from 2600 to 5250 rpm. Cool. :). Pulls like a 16 yr old schoolboy.

At 16 years old I had school girls pulling for me:D

Smoking the cat box

Got everything back together last night and fired her up. Love the new sound!
But.........after running for a few minutes, she started smoking from the header and pipe connections to the cat box (don't worry, it will come off soon too). I hadn't loosened these at all and it never smoked before.
Is this simply a result of the new A/F mix and too much trapped air trying to get through and out? And, will it be resolved once I load a new tune?
Or perhaps a little burnoff of the filter oil on initial startup, but I would think that would make it's way through the whole exhaust? Just seems like too much trapped flow out of the headers? Or I've got one of those F***ing California bikes and the cat box is the problem?
Anybody else experience this?
Thanks

dude did you have the cat box off? if so was it heavy or light and if it was heavy did it rattle?

No, never messed with the exhaust at all, pulled the shields, but that's it.
did you add fuel to the trim when you changed the filters? After you get a few miles on them I would like to knowif your still getting the black smoke. it could be you just sucked the oil from the filters. everyone I have talked to says the red oil on the filters disapears fast. I think the pull is so strong it sucks it right into the engine and burns it up. thats why I quit oiling mine and went to the outerwears prfilters. beside the water sheading ability during a monsoon:D

Haven't changed anything with the fuel or tunes yet. I thought maybe the oil too, but wondered why out of the cat box connections instead of the pipes? I'll be putting the new tune on tonight or tomorrow and see if that makes a difference.

check the clamps on the cat box they might be loose and leaking a little.

Plan on tightening them, just wondering why it would be doing it now when it wasn't last week and the only thing that changed was the K&Ns and secondary removals?
I won't start worrying until after I have the new tune in and it's still doing it :D
