Got my filters from Flip today and started the Install. Looks like they'll fit well with some serious mods to the Bear Claw!!
My big question is, do I need the Air Temp Sensor Filter if I'm going to install it in one of the filters? With the angle/height of the filter base, I'm planning on fixing the original rubber grommett into one of the 1770s and plugging the sensor straight in. Common sense would say I only need the filter if I'm leaving the sensor outside, but thought I'd ask those who have already done it.

Second question. Does it matter which one I put it in? (My wife says yes, but I think she's talking about something else ) Is any one better than the others?

Here's how they're looking so far!

I'm planning on running blue oil in them (If I can find someone locally or who can ship internationally).

I would run it to the center one to get a more average temerature. Of course the Triumph one has been found to be off 17 degrees F. If I remember right.

Filter????????????

Reality is....you don't need a filter on the dang thing at all. You could drop it in a cup of coffee and it will read fine as long as the weather pak on the terminals is intact. Don't know who started the "filter" sh*t but it must be someone who is making money selling tiny filters:D As warp mentioned, be aware the triumph IAT sensor is skewed. To check yours turn key on...engine off and compare scanner reading of engine temp vs the IAT....they should be the same +- 4 degrees. Mine was off by nearly 20degrees F. If you don't have access to a scanner,,,any OBDII compliant scanner will read it....this is generic info so maybe an Autoparts store could help you with this.

Dbutton, those filters look awfully big.
Do they hit your knee when you are riding?

D, I used the IAT out of a 2005 chevy classic as you recommended well you recommended the year not model I just had a wrecked one laying around from my son he did it for his mother. aynway the Triumph rubber grommet was to large so I used the groment out of the chevy. worked out fine. Of course I would not have known this if it weren't for you so thanks a bunch. I suppose you could rap the chevy or GM one with electrical tape to make it fit the Triumph grommet but since I had the chevy one I went with it.

Sitting in my garage, not having run in several days, my Scangauge shows IAT reading 75 degrees, water temp reading 73 degrees and ambient temperature is 73 degrees.

That's sitting in a little filter resting between the first and second K&N. I have had the IAT sensor mounted into one of the K&N's and in its own filter and have seen very little difference in reported readings.

To my way of thinking the little filter just offers a bit of protection in a harsh environment. Is it really necessary, probably not, but it sure doesn't do any harm.

I have shortened the flange on the bottom, which helps these filters fit under the line of the tank. If you wish to try clamping the filter to a clean piece of exh tube (62mm I think) with the clamp done up tight about 20mm up from the end. Then one can do a neat cut using the steel clamp as a guide to remove the lenght needed. I use a stanley knife :) I reckons Yanks call them a box cutter ? Cheers Nev BTW trying a set of SN 2510's tomorrow.

Found a salvage bearclaw on eBay and it just came in. Figured I'd use it to "figure out" the designer cuts. Good thing is, if the carving goes well, I can keep my original intact, since it looks like my cuts will take out the scratch and dent areas!
Gonna try with the full flange for now, but if it doesn't work out, that's an awesome idea Nev!!

"unskewed" sensor?????

Sitting in my garage, not having run in several days, my Scangauge shows IAT reading 75 degrees, water temp reading 73 degrees and ambient temperature is 73 degrees.

So that means at least SOME of the IAT's read correctly:D I guess it does pay to do that simple comparison tho. I just like the smaller sensor anyway rather than that huge clunky inaccurate one I had. Its a lot easier to relocate the small one, plus its black and doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.
