Just a quicky, if I decide to fit triple K&N's can I leave my stock under seat filter in place or is it essential that I remove it.
I'm asking this because it's a real PITA to remove mine as I'd have to unbolt the whole rear section which is quite fiddly.

Also, are they easy to install?

Many thanks!

Not mandatory.
Take out the stock filter, and use the under-seat airbox for storage.

Most people remove all the stock intake plumbing then remove the stock filter and use the space left for storage. To do this you need a small filter for the engine breather so that the engine doesn't vent into the empty box. Flipmeister, a member of this site sells the filters.

Thanks for your comments. I like the idea, but we'll see.

I'm not a great believer in gaining just a few horses for the expense, but they sure look nice and obviously flow more air than a stock filter and would complement my exhaust and a suitable tune.

What are your opinions on K&N filters? Are they worth it generally speaking? Would they dirty the oil more quickly?

Cheers

The K&N's are definitely worth the money they do make a fair difference as to a single filter whether it be a K&N or a stock fliter the plumbing restricts the air flow drastically and the only hard part of the replacement job is deciding which corner in the shed you are going to leave all the plastic junk while you are doing it pull the secondaries put as well and definitely put a suitable tune in and if you want you can also put a PCV + AT to have self tuning motor

I agree!

I thoroughly agree with the K&N's, but they're not for everyone. I think I'll keep the stock filter and still haul ass. Especially as the bike lost about 25 kgs. Doubt I'll notice much. Bye bye GSX-R.

I used to love those autumn evenings when the temperature was starting to drop because the bike would change personality; it was more responsive and seemed to have more power. Then I fitted the K&Ns and now it runs like that all the time. Highly recommend doing it.

Not sure I understand why you can't remove the underseat filter easily. Just unscrew the cover and lift it out!

I think he means the whole box and I wouldn't be doing that if I were him cos I think you will find a lot of important stuff hangs of it, just leave it there and use the storage
