I should be receiving my Kuryakyn ISO grips any year now (post office on strike) and was wondering about the Bar End Weights I have on the stock grips. Is removing the weights going to cause any problems? Also, how do I remove the weights and the grips once I go to install the ISOs?

Cheers

there's a thread on here somewhere about removing the stock grips. It's been so long ago I can't remember. I do recall that you have to literally cut the left grip off but I couldn't tell you about the throttle side.

When installing the grip on the throttle, the directions may say to file down the lttle nubbies on the throttle barrel. DO NOT DO THIS. The grip will go on with a little bit of effort.

As far as weights, I installed the kewl-locks on both sides and they serve as weights.

btw, regarding your postal strike, don't you just love f**kn unions.

Don't get me started on unions! I think, back in the day, they had their place and certainly they're not all bad but these guys get paid pretty ****ed well for, let's face it, a not so skilled job and better yet it is a Government job... Hence I pay their wages. They will soon go the way of the Dodo and the milkman and they don't seem to see it.

Thanks for the info. I did do a quick search but didn't find anything specific about removing the grips. I'll try again.

Do I need to add anything as a weight or is that not really required?

I put the kuryakn grips on my R3T and experienced increase vibration..the stock weight will not work so I ordered the kuryakyn end weights and most of the vibration is gone. When you remove the stock grips, you will be able to see how much those end weights weigh and you will need to order the kuryakyns'.

I had a bad feeling that was going to be the case. I had enough vibration issues with other bikes I don't want to introduce it to this one.

Thanks for the heads up

stock weights will work. go to ace hardware and pick up 2 spacers that just fits over the bolt and about 2" long. use a grinder or drimel to cut the length of the spacer down to where you just have an 1/8-1/16" clearance from the end of the grip once it's tightened down. This helps with the vibration & cost like $0.50. like this:

Make sure the outside diameter of the spacer is smaller than the hole in the end ot the grip.

the kuryakyns weights wouldn't work because you had to cut the stock extension on the throttle side where the stock weight attached and the kuryakyns weights were not long enough to attach to the handle bar.

correct. the weights are about the same size around as the end of the iso grips. looks just like it was made for it. oh, for clarification.... I left an 1/8" space on the throttle side & a 1/16" on the clutch side. don't want to interfere with the throttle movement :D

I just put the ISO grips on my R3T. MY left grip pulled off no problem, and if you get the correct throttle grip, the right one will go right on with no cutting as well. It must have the sleeve for the throttle on the new grip...

I had the Kury end weights with the throttle boss, but they require a hollow bar to insert. I put the original end weights on while I pondered new bars...... they went on no problem and really dont look bad.

Then I went and bought some new chrome screws and ground the throttle side of the throttle boss down so that I could mount the new weights and throttle boss using the threaded bars.

Everything works and looks great.

Love the fatter grips and the throttle boss when I am on the road. Hope yours goes as well....
