Is performance synonymous with loud?

Thanks everyone. Great advice, I just ordered the tune ECU off ebay so I'll start with that I'd hate for something bad to happen so soon after getting this bike. I really like those straight black pipes HDSKIP maybe one day I'll go that route but just put down a chunk of my savings for this bike so its on the checklist I'm putting together. I'll use this site for reference when I get my tuneECU I've found some existing posts about them already.

Thanks again
Tony

Hey I'm 28! I'd just like to keep my hearing like it is when I do get older. Its been my experience while driving my truck that the only times I recal noticing a bikes loud pipes is when they're passing me and that's because of a sudden. Loud noise coming then going. If they're travelling about the same speeds I am its easy for the loud noise to become blended into the sounds of my exhaust, intake, radio. etc. Even without that the truck shuts up the outside world really well with the windows up. You're right its not terrible I think it got to me mainly cause my last ride was so long and the exhaust with the wind noise and the fact I forgot my ear plugs it just seemed like much after awhile.

I only wish I'd been as smart at 28. Now, some 35+ years later I get to live with poor hearing and a constant ringing.

Your observations about loud pipes are correct. In a car or truck you will almost never hear them approaching from the rear, only as the pass and pull away. Its just the nature of the way sound waves work.

Keep wearing those earplugs, custom fit are the best.

I have the bone stock exhaust in virtually brand new condition sitting in a box in my basement. I'll let it go cheap ($100) to anyone who wants it. PM me with your interest.

I also have a GI Pro (red LED model) with ATRE in its original box with factory instructions and a set of brand new connectors. First $80 takes it. Again, send a PM with your interest.

Honestly if i need a little noise with more performance I'll keep the pipes. I am interested in the rest, though it may be awhile before i can get it. that is a great price so maybe sooner than later.

It sounds like the prior owner of your bike removed the CAT and installed the CAT bypass (referenced on the forum as "CAT delete", which GREATLY increases the loudness of the TORS pipes. A cheap solution to quieten your bike down may be to reinstall the CAT CONV instead of changing exhaust.

I am sure that there are several fellow Rocket riders here that have a spare CAT (as I do)who have installed the bypass and the old CAT is simply taking up space in the garage...perhaps you can work a deal for someone to ship you the part and then will take you all of about an hour to install it and resolve your noise issue.

Wish I could Richard,
I CAN'T WAIT.
I hope Hans sees this thread,
he wanted to see the mini preds and asked me about them a week or so ago.
Can't wit till he sees what I'm getting instead, or first,
I should say, just in case the mini-preds ever do come in....
That sure is a clean motorcycle in the pics huh?
He probably washes his more than I do,
I usually try to wash mine every May,
but I missed this year, maybe next year.....
Yes I did they look awesome and the length of the jar strait pipes should take a little of the sting out as long as you are still getting some back pressure

Im yet to hear a loud rocket
I wish mine was louder .
As the sayings go if its too loud your too old :D
and loud pipes save lives:cool:
did yo fire your bike up with just the headers or the headers and cat delete now that is loud, I particularly liked the 3 foot flame it threw when I snapped open the throttle and then closed it just as quick ...... Thought I was going to set the garage alight, I even toyed with the idea of running straight thru 2 inch pipes of the staintune cat delete
Now that would be loud who said I'm to old, my hearing is already shot from racing around on 2 stroke dirt bikes with expansion chambers in my younger days... Just a couple of years ago

I'm really thinking about the gi pro with ATRE. Is there any reason not to get it? How's it cause the bike to run in very slow speeds, u-turns etc. This bike already has pipes and k&n filters I don't want to effect the reliability either.
