Now I have another issue, My clock is no keeping memory.... and possibly the fuel gauge is not working, is there a certain amount of time I have to run engine till the fuel gauge registers? the low fuel light is not on, and I know the tank is not empty, but the gauge isnt moving. and each time the engine is turned off the clock resets to 1:00. any guesses?

Fuse #3 is blown
OK I should have listened to you DEcosse, The tach worked well but I think the zener diode would have saved it or at least made it last longer. After about 10 days it got dimmer display and now doesn't light up at all. However the volt meter still going. So I am investigating another black face analog tach now that I know I can hook it up. If I was going to go back and get another LED one though, what kind of zener would you recommend? 12v yes but wattage??

Wattage is unimportant - it's only passing low current so a 1W is plenty.
Note per my previous suggestion, try a 5V first and only if that doesn't work go with the 12V.

Nice one :D - taken out of context of course - he, himself, was HUGELY important.
