I'm fed up now!

Ok, so I cleaned the contact points on the starter button this morning as they were a bit black on both parts. The voltage on the load side started at 11.8v but kept dropping until 11.4v where it eventually stopped. It started 1st time in neutral like yesterday morning. But when I tried to start again it was still difficult but got it going.

So, it started 1st time with 11.8v at the button but was difficult to start the second time with 11.4v at the button. Assuming I'm correct on this.

I haven't tried the jump on the relay again or done the second relay fix kindly provided by Honker yet.

Still 12.8v resting at battery also. I'm thinking the second relay fix at battery might be the only solution, would you agree with me on that one?

The next time it happens take a jumper wire from the positive lead of the battery and touch it to the blue and yellow wire on the back of the starter relay while holding in the starter button.See if it starts.

I'll give that a try honker. What are the two leads coming off the positive side? The thick one and a thin one?

I assume you are talking about the postive terminal of the battery? I am at my office at the moment and cant picture the leads.Wont matter, just run a jumper from the terminal to the wire on the relay.Only do it momentarily to see if the starter engages.

I've just done the test with some wire on + terminal to relay and it starts 1st time every time, amazing.

When I looked at the terminal, there is a thin red wire which has been cut short and left in place. This may have been done for the same reason, or could have been for something else, don't know.

So, I can't just leave a wire hooked up? What would be the danger in doing this?

Connecting to battery may bypass neutral and kickstand safety switches. Your call.........

Just before I fit the 2nd relay, can one of you nice chaps tell me the best way the fit the inline fuse and which amperage and gauge wire to use, 16g/18g?

Is there a simple way to do it? Cheers

You can not leave it hooked up constantly.Wire in the relay exactly as the diagram shows. Use the same size wire that you are tying into with a 20 amp fuse. There will only be juice to it while you are holding down the starter button.The other safety switches are not bypassed when you use the relay. Its using all the same systems as before.

Just got back from a bosch auto service centre and the electrician identified my problem as the starter button not making good contact.
He hooked up a light bulb tester thing to the relay switch and pressed the starter button. The bulb only lit up 1 or 2 times in 10. When it lit up it started great as it should.

Now, I'm not really sure what to do, because I've already cleaned the contacts at the starter, but there is obviously still a problem at the starter button. I get 11.8v at button. I suppose there could be a problem from button to relay, but not sure about that.

Any suggestions chaps?
