A sign in Australia’s outback has shocked the Reddit community, showing a 630km stretch of road with no phone signal.
The sign is on Diamantina Developmental Road and is one of Australia’s longest roads, going for 1344km. The road, which is mostly sealed, is often single-lane, with some long dirt sections, running from Charleville in the south-central part of the state to Mount Isa in the northwest.
The sign highlights to overseas readers just how big and open Australia is, blowing the minds of social media users.
To put the distance into context for those in Australia, it’s about the length of driving Melbourne to Canberra. That’s approximately 6-hours worth of driving.
For those same people and the rest of social media, now imagine 6 hours with no phone reception. No Instagram. No TikTok. It’s basically like the ‘90s.
For those looking for adventure in the Australian outback, a 4WD would be advised, as would a satellite phone.

Or maybe be good AND have open speed limits like the NT did until 2003.
I once did 400 Km of dirt and 100 single lane two way, sealed from Kintore a remote Aboriginal community on the WA border, to the Stuart H'way turn off about 25 km North of Alice Springs, then turned North and did 1500 km 2 lane wide tar straight through to Darwin. 2000km in 17 hours with fuel stops about every 500Km. Two extra range tanks and an unlimited fuel card!
Flat to the pedal on my diesel HJ75 Troopie or Nissan Turbo Patrol I could average 140kmh on the dirt and and 155Kmh on the sealed highway maxing about 160 and 170 on each surface.

Warakurna to Kintore

I used to do loops from Alice Springs visiting communities and mining camps/stations (ranches)/resorts/hotels etc This Western loop via Erldunda, Yulara (Ayers Rock) then through Docker River and head North bypassing Tjukurla and up to Kintore before heading 500km back east to the sealed Stuart H'way.
Setting up and conducting pop census' every 5 years. I did a couple of 6 month Census stints in A/Spgs 1991 and 2001 and many years of survey work before and between.

I completely misread your post to begin with ...though you went FROM Kintore TO a remote community in WA....Warakurna is the only one I could think of
