**** - I need to try that on Magpies. Here birdy, birdy.......
Its easy we would grab a loaf of stale bread bust it up and sprinkle it out over the water. The gills would just swarm the water grabbing everthing tbey could. So yoi ball some fresh bread up on you fishing hook and cast it out among the stale bread and wait for your line to airborne. Set the amd you got them. You never get the hook back but it is less messy tying a new one on the line.
 
If we get seagulls around here, I check the weathermap.....amphibious birds coming inland is not a good sign!

Magpies are however unlikely to land on our pool, even if the missus let me use it as a trap. So either I trap one. OR use my usual 18.6 grains of .17 calibre lead. :whitstling:
