Harley Guys Wave at Me Now

The reaction you get varies radically depending on where you are. In areas where motorcycles aren't very common or the population is small, the snob HD mentality isn't as prevalent. Out on the coasts where there's more people, hardleys are common and like any group, they regress into a group (mob) mentality or, the "My group is cooler than your group stupidity". It's all very childish but hey, when you ride a HD, that's all you've got ... ;)
Here in California, neanderthal knuckle dragging hardley riders are commonplace, ... unfortunately. :soapbox:

I don't want to sound, well, crude, but it seems to me that people in California have very thin skin when it comes to being corrected for a mistake or a misrepresentation they made on the net. I just got in an argument with a poster on another site over some trivial ****te and his answer was to put me on 'ingnore' rather than stating the facts for his datribe.

I can't help it if you have Arnold for a Guv'nor. Ain't a bad guy, just sounds a little....gay, that's all.

I wave at em all. As long as they got their kees in the breeze.;) If they don't wave back I utter something obscene under my breath and go on smileing.:D:D

Since buying my R3T I find that most Harley riders wave. I suspect they initially think they're waving to another Harley.

Then as they pass, they're wondering, why the hell would somebody stick a Buick radiator on a Road King?????

Today, wy wife and I rode up to a large bike show at a casino in the Sierra foothills.
I decided to do a test to determine if hardly riders would initiate a wave first if they know you are riding a Triumph. We passed hundreds of bikes going the other direction, mostly HD. I wore one of my Triumph vintage logo t shirts. The one I had on has a giant white logo on the front of a dark blue shirt. The word Triumph is clearly visible from a considerable distance so there was no mistaking what I was riding. I usually wave first but today I waited for them to do it first. The results were maybe 5 people waved out of 300 bikes that rode by. Some of them wern't even riding hardlys...

So, my conclusion is: very few HD riders initiate the wave to Triumph riders. I'm sure my results would be just as negative if I had been wearing a Honda or Suzuki shirt, maybe worse. That's O.K. We had a great day riding our Rocket 3 :D

I've been riding a very long time.
Since 1960.
Riders have always waved at other riders, regardless of what they were riding.
It's only been in recent years since all the harley posers have entered the scene that this anti everything other than HD mentality has become prevalent. Most hardley riders think HD is and always has been the motorcycle of choice but it's only been in the last 10 - 15 years since baby boomers have come of age (and wealth) that the whole HD fad has evolved. In the 60's when I began riding, hardleys were actually in the minority. I saw many more Hondas, Triumphs, Nortons and BSAs during that era. Matchless, Velocettes, Indian and even an occasional Vincent were also a common sight when riding in the early 60's. People had hardleys but everyone knew they leaked oil, were very unreliable and were slow, VERY slow! Most of these HD guys that think they are "big stuff" on their overpriced HDs are newbies on the motorcycling scene :D
