Good evening all (well it is here).
I am seriously tempted in chopping in my Tiger 800 for a R3. The engine on the 800 is too revvy for my liking. I also have an original R1100GS which I enjoy as much as the Tiger, so I do think the Tigers days are numbered.
I have my eye on a couple of R3's, one is a 2008 Classic and the other is a 2009 (the dealer says Roadster). But here's my question, how do I tell the difference between a R3 original and a R3 Roadster? Will it say it on the V5?
The 2009 one I am looking at has aftermarket pipes, so no help there. I know they moved the pegs back 100mm so I have been studying various pictures and the right footpeg on originals seems to be level with the downpipe nearest the front wheel but on the later (2013 Roadsters) the footpeg is level with the middle downpipe. The 2009 bike in question has the peg near the front downpipe which is why I doubt it's a Roadster.
Both bikes are similar price, the classic is well specced with foot boards, aftermarket pipes, aftermarket shocks and soft panniers. The 2009 just has aftermarket pipes, but if this is a Roadster then it looks a better deal, if its a classic then its not. I have read reviews and the Roadster does seem to be the better bike (not interested in the Tourer/Touring).
