GI Pro finally installed!

Hi Triumphil,

Thanks for the heads-up. Are you saying that I should disconnect the GI and reconnect? I didn't disconnect the GI when the dealer reprogged the ECU. Would this be a possible issue?

I honestly feel no difference between any of the settings on the GI and the bike is noticeably less exciting than it was with the GI and stock pipes and tune.

Thanks in advance if you can shed any light.

Mark

Yes, Mark. if you did not install a computer, your first three gears should definitely be "lighting up". I'm no great wrench, so I'd recommend reaching out to Hellfire via PM. He has become somewhat of our resident expert on the subject. I think a reinstall procedure will get you back that lost oomph.

Just took mine for a ride with the pro. Didn't notice much of a difference. I have the pciii and the d & d pipes already. Do in need to do something else?

three things.
1) do a 12 minute tune.
2) hit the little button on the bottom till it says 3 on the display.
3) just remove the secondaries.
You'll notice the difference, I guarantee it.

Ahh. The secondaries! Didn't know I had to remove them to feel the difference. It shall be done, along with the triple filters come Wednesday:)

It's not necessary to remove the 3 secondaries.
I started to write
OR
between numbers 2 and 3 on that short list.
But it sure ain't gonna hurt nothin'.
I already had mine out, and if the wife would let me,
I'd take hers out too.
If a person wanted just a cheap mod,
then removing the secondaries would be the thing to do.
Since you already have the GiPro, and the triples,
I'd remove them anyway, but let me repeat,
It's not necessary for the benefit of unrestricting the first 3 gears.
Maybe a short part of a second response difference,
I don't know, as I said, I already had mine out.
You definitely want to hang on tight if you put it in mode #3,
regardless if the secondaries are out or not.
With the secondaries out, its alot more responsive,
with the GiPro in #3,
I almost pulled it over on myself when I hit a bump
while riding a wheelie going for second gear.
Do be careful.

Hi Skip,

Have you ever run the GiPro with the secondaries still in? Herein lies my problem. Because the Triumph TORs tune doesn't change the opening of the secondaries in any gear (they are closed exactly the same at all rpms in all gears), there is no noticeable difference with or without the GiPro. The power limiting that Triumph programs into the Rocket's ECU is primarily achieved by closing of the secondaries. The ignition retard is only slightly affective so if you don't remove the secondaries and are running the factory TORs tune, the effect of the GiPro is very minor. I've followed your posts regarding your mods and it doesn't look like you ever ran the GIpro with your secondaries in place. Is that correct?

I ran the GiPro with stock pipes and stock tune - difference was huge! I then switched pipes and tune - difference is gone. In fact, I can barely tell between settings 1,2 or 3 but before the new pipes and tune, I could easily tell.

How hard is it to remove the secondaries? Will I need to retune due to the secondaries being removed? It's either this or Tuneboy and Tuneboy seems way too tricky for me. Any help would be much appreciated Skip. Thanks.

Lots of info on the Pro here to help with the install, use the search tab at the top of the page and read up on the subject or just ask if you have a specific problem. #1 is if you don't have a big ass grin on your face after the test ride, you did something wrong. :p

I am still running with secondaries and have the Triumph after market pipes and tune. I have to say that the difference with the GI pro is very noticeable. Pulls much more strongly through the first three gears without a shadow of a doubt (so the seat of my pants says ;))

Don't wanna repeat what's already been said about this little gizmo but, if you haven't done it you are missing out! :D

Hi Laraza,

After much reading I have ordered my GI-PRO from a UK dealer. Can you tell me if the mounting plate for the indicator comes in the kit or do I have to source one separately? I want to place it exactly where you have mounted yours.

Thanks

Denny
