2014 triumph rocket 3 roadstar custom
Hey family,

This morning on my way to work I noticed something strange. Riding in a pair of new, chunky work boots, the shifts into 3rd and 4th felt rougher than usual (5th was getting worse too). I figured maybe it was just me treating the gearbox wrong with the big boots—lesson learned.

But on the ride home things got bad. On the highway, while fighting with the shifter pedal, I suddenly heard a loud “clank.” After that, shifting into 1st became really difficult. About 20 minutes later, the shifter basically locked up—gears wouldn’t change at all. I limped home stuck in 2nd gear with what sounded like something broken or loose near the gear drum.

Current symptoms:

  • Every time I turn the bike on, I hear a rattling noise.
  • Can’t shift gears at all.
  • When I press the clutch and try to change gear, the pedal vibrates and makes a loud metallic noise.
Weird upside (if you can call it that):

  • My "miles to empty" indicator its working now (never did before, still my gear position sensor its now working).
  • Side stand sensor also works now.
  • Neutral light, which was always on, is now off.
So something definitely changed deep inside.

I’m planning on ordering parts and giving the repair a shot myself, but this will be my first time opening up an engine. Any guidance, advice, or pointers would be hugely appreciated.

Bike: 2014 Triumph Rocket 3 Roadster

Thanks, family.

Its a gear, its broke. If it was the infamous bolt it would just flop around. Its a broke 4th im gonna bet, or circlip dislodged either way its gotta come apart. Ive broke 3 😁 you said big clunky boots, gotta be sble to slide up under that shifter and not touch and come on to pedal unimpediate , probably know that, but our transmission like smooth and easy no clunking, with big clunky boots, clunky boots are good but clunking on shifter not good😁 heathen.
