The BEST HANDLING tire set I have found for these monsters in 150,000 miles of riding (hooning) my two R3Rs all over the USA is the 240/55R16 85V Bridgestone Exedra Max rear tire and the 150/70R17 Michelin Road 5 or 6 rear tire run reverse on the rim.
I have experienced NO reduction in wet road performance and both motors have buried the speedometer many times. If you are “truly” pushing the twisties to the R3R limits the drag occurs about one eighth to three sixteenth inch of chicken strip on the rear tire. I was able to increase my lean angle some by replacing the pegs with Standard Boards, which sit higher.
These tires lower the front axle one half inch and raise the read axle one half inch, thereby reducing the trail and GREATLY improving handling! Try it and you’ll LOVE IT! ❤️

PS: Herman, my dear Amigo.
This tire change does not reduce overall lean angle. I have much enjoyed riding with you a several times and seen your board feelers. 😜🤪❤️

I have ran the Bridgestone excedra max every since i wore out the second metzler
in my old age i seem to be dragging the floor boards a bit more so i do not want to loose even 1/2 inch.
i would run the cobras in front but because of price and availability i am trying a bridgestone g701 in front.
when i am laid over i don't know if 1/2 inch on the center makes much different. lol
i sure miss riding with old friends.
