Final Drive Oil Change

I just passed 600 miles on my 2008 R3T. So I changed the oil, filter, and even the drain plug washers and o-ring, just like the manual said. The only suprprise was that the oil (Mobil 1 Racing 4T 15W-50) cost me 55 USD per 4-liter jug, of which I had to buy two!

My question is about the final drive oil. My gut tells me I ought to change it too, but the manual doesn't say to do that until much further down the road (at 20K, IIRC). What do you folks think? How often do you change yours? If I were to change it now, do you have any tips for me?

Regarding procedure, I imagine you simply remove both the drain plug and the filler plug, let the old oil drain, replace the drain plug and refill with the OEM spec oil or some equivalent, and replace the filler plug. Is there more to it than that? Are there washers and such that need to be replaced?

Final drive oil

I change all of my drive shaft bikes every spring regardless of mileage.
It's only a few ounces of oil.

I change the final drive oil with every motor oil change 5k it's cheap ins.

I change the rear end every second oil change(roughly 10000) I use synthetic AM soil bought at the local auto parts store along with a Mobil 1 oil filter.
Be very very very careful with the drain plug on the rear end it shears off real easy.

 

[Triple Trouble]

I bought some Mobil synthetic 75/90 hypoid but there's no GL-5 rating on it. Wonder if I can use it?
