Explain the secondary function to me

Will someone explain the secondary function and affectiveness and how & when they come into play.

I can't give you the technical stuff but can tell you that it is like the butterfly in a carby that is controlled by the electronic gizmos in the bike.

What it does is give a gradual dose of air as opposed to whacking it wide open with the throttle as does the primary.

When you see them in action it is quite clear that the secondaries are there to allow a measured volume of air into the injectors. The geeks will tell you specifically how it restricts the volume to XX% in first gear etc.

I took mine out and the result was a more instant throttle response, sometimes a bit of a cough and splutter when I get carried away and give it a gut-full. I like it better without them, puts me in control so if I mess up it's me to blame. Got to remember to keep the front wheel on the ground and try stop the rear wheel from smoking up.:D

I will be leaving mine out but have kept them just in case?

Mine's out too.
That along with a Gi-Pro will unleash the beast within that
Triumph tried to control so we don't hurt ourselves...
Mine's laying around somewhere too, anybody want em?:p
What for you may ask,
heck I don't know, maybe they'd make a nice wind chime or something...

That wind chime idea crossed my mind as well, but couldn't do it since I decided to save everything necessary for a second owner to put it back to stock if they want.

The secondaries probably have other benefits besides safety, maybe emissions or mileage. I know that Triumph uses them to adjust fuel mixture rather than increase fuel delivery via injectors. The Triumph TOR's tune closes them more to compensate for the reduced back pressure. That approach never made much sense to me since the exhaust is for increasing power and closing the secondaries reduces power.
Before I knew about this, I installed the TOR's myself and rode around for a week. When my appointment time came up at the dealer I had been used to the increased power from the exhaust. After they installed the tune it was apparent that the power was noticeably reduced and the guys here explained to me why. That's when I ordered the PCIII, removed the secondaries, installed the triple K&N's and GiPro. She's a beast now.;)

If the secondaries are removed, what is the point of the Gipro other than a gear indicator?

After reading the Gipro threads I am very tempted to get one. My understanding from the posts on those threads is that you can turn the ATRE function on and off by the push of a button. Is that correct or am I misunderstanding?

Removing the secondaries is free and looks to be simple and quick, but I think it would be worth the price of the Gipro to be able to turn them back "on" again in the rain.

Binnsy, how can you in the one sentence say "I can't give you the technical stuff" and then come up with "it is like the butterfly in a carby that is controlled by the electronic gizmos in the bike."?? Sounds pretty technical to me. ;)

Just kidding mate. Explained it perectly.

The secondaries don't have anything directly to do with the GiPro, it's the ignition timing in 4th and 5th gear that you're after. Removing the secondaries with a GiPro is mostly for the throttle response since the fuel is altered by the PCIII.

Yeah, the igintion timing in 4 and 5 so that I get open secondaries in 1, 2, and 3, and can turn that off and back to stock with the push of a button. Does the gipro do this?

In other words, what do I get if all I get is the gipro, no pcIII, no aftermarket pipes, no aftermarket filters. Is the gipro by itself worth it?

can't give an honest response to that ugarte,
because I removed my secondaries at the same time as I installed my pipes and filters.
But for $150.00 gear indicator it's still worth it to me,
cause I haven't tried to shift into 6th one time since the install.
Sure I used my tach to shift up or down,
but the peace of mind of just constantly KNOWING with a glance is reassuring as well.
