Excitement diminished a little

I do some wheelies ever so often. Wouldn't the oil light come on if the oil pump lost prime? Seems to me no oil equals no pressure so the light would come on.

Probably so, but I'm not watching the gauges when I'm doing a wheelie. Maybe that's a good reason to get a GoPro camera. Is it tax deductible if it's for research?

Correct me if I'm wrong-but aren't these dry-sump engines? And aren't dry-sumps designed to handle the scavenge pump pickup being out of oil periodically? I was under the impression that was why dry-sumps were developed. Did Carpenter mention just how common that failure is?

I remember it being to save the flywheel having to drag through the oil and lose HP.

Actually you should be right really, unless it is very long wheel stand. If the return pump sucks air it wont matter. If the oil doesn't run into the pressure pump, that's where you will have a problem. Hell, I have a customer who did 70000kms on a 200hp motor and he did rollng burnouts, wheelies etc every time he got on the thing with no problem. We just built the engine, dynoed it and rode it straight away, no run in. The only reason he stopped it was because he shot one of the gearbox gears to bits. I reckon it is something with your individual bike. What weight oil are you using?

We must be related---- this guy sounds like me, except the 70,000 klm bit:p

No he didn't say that it was common.

I just ride them through first gear, so about the time it takes to go from 30-65 mph.
I don't have the balance to keep them going very long like you see some of the sport bike riders do.
