Oil drain

There should be a diagram showing the drain bolts in your owners manual.
They are all allen bolts.the 3 big ones are the drain plugs.
Do not touch the smaller ones.

oto link there are the three min oli plugs as the book says but if you just pull them you will still leave soem oil in her. To get the most out you have to pull all of them. They all have the same torque specifications. The reason I say most of the oil out is because their are a few low spots in the sump that will never drain unleas you take the sump plate off or turn the bike on its side:D

I alway pull all the plugs to get as much of the old oil out as I can. do not over torque the plugs as they will strip out easily. Watch for the sealing washers as some stick for a little while to the sump plate and if you don't notice it they will drop in your drain pan and you might not remember to pull them out and re-use them thus creating the Harley affect on your garage floor.

Easy way to find the right 3 plugs--- right front, left rear and left center below oil tank.
Be aware that when you remove the big one under the oil tank it will be a gusher and make a huge mess if you're not prepared for it.
And have a large container to catch the oil ... she holds alot of it.
Don't over torque the plugs, the case is aluminum and strips easily.
The aluminum washers are usually reusable and the rubber O-ring on the big one is good for a couple oil changes if taken care of and not damaged.
Careful not to over fill the oil and check the level only after it's been running for awhile. Oil slips back into the sump when sitting awhile and overfilling it will cause oil to blow out the top of the engine for a big mess.
Don't use automobile oil, will cause clutch to slip.

Those are just general tips you probably already know that I got here on the site and found useful, hope they help.

i'm glad i read this thread. i'm also going to be doing my first oil change on my bike, so i need to get some washers and whatever "O" rings might be needed, for spares if nothing else. it'd suck to be halfway through an oil change and discover that one of my washers is no longer usable or an o ring.

The O rings and washers are the same as those used in many other applications and you should be able to get them anywhere if you have a sample.
