Hello Chris and welcome from Virginia. I surely cannot give cleaning advice. I try to ride in the rain as often as I can hoping it will clean the bike for me...
Cleaning tools and requirements: Warm weather (75 degrees or better), Turtle wax wash soap, Turtle wax, Lots of rag, Cheap radio that fades in and out,and the most important item, Eighteen pack.
As much as people say itll ruin your life and you'll die, I use dish soap, hot water, a few rags and some towels to dry it. The final polish can be done with your spray and wipe synthetic wax of choice or pledge Just make sure you dry out all the nooks and crannies before you wax.
Tried S100, worked for ****, won't waste my money again. Dish soap actually breaks down the removes the black muck that builds up on the bottom of the bike.
Of all the steps you do, I firmly believe the final wipe down with some finishing product is the most important. To do it right, you have to look closely and touch every single inch of the bike, so it also helps you identify loose bolts, new chips, damaged items etc.
You will get lots of great advice on here... and an awful lot of comedians which is par for the course so don't be offended.... I use elbow grease n ACF-50 on my black engine and Autosol on the chrome. Enjoy yer rocket I love mine!
Back in the day Harley was pushing S-100 it actually took the chrome off my RK's spokes . I've been using Simple Green with great results on my bikes. There was a time I'd wash my bikes every weekend but today It's one weekend a year... Try it you'll like it..!
Not what cleans best I keep the old girls covered in a thick coat of autoglym products that way dirt just washes off a bit of free advice don't wash your black engine when the engine is hot / warm all the water evaporates away and leaves hard to reach lime scale in all the nooks and crannies
