engine bars, 1st gen vs 2nd gen vs rivco

I had the old Triumph Dresser bars, they were very flimsy. The left one cracked and broke due to vibration. Took them to my dealer. Triumph warranted them and he installed the New style bars. Strong as an ox now. One problem I see, if you crash they are going to break your engine case where they bolt on. There’s an engine on ebay right now that this happened too.
 
I purchased soem 2nd gen bars, I had to verify the numbers to be sure, and the part numbers list the, as the 2nd gen.

also says suitable for highway pegs etc...


is there any physical appearance difference? I haven't opened the box to install yet, have some other things I want to do first so will do it all at once..
 
Weld broke on the upper right side on mine... I have first generation from '06... Triumph is replacing them for free, but dealer has three sets backordered... Don't know when they will arrive... So, in the meantime, dealer welded the original ones... His weld seems stronger than the original but they still have to be replaced...

Ceash tested my '05 1st Gen Triumph bars...they work!

I crash tested my 2005 1st Gen crash bars when I went down June 2nd. They kept my right leg from getting caught up underneath the bike, saved the radiator and right side of bike as well as the tank. Yes they bent, but they are a sacrificial part, like a collapsing bumper. No crash bar is going to survive a crash, you will be replacing them after going down.
The dealer replaced mine with the 2nd Gen that do not stick out nearly as much and I fear that if I was to lowside in a similar situation as before, these WOULD not allow me to get my leg away from the bike nor would they protect the side of the bike/radiator as well.

Besides sticking out farther overall, the 1st gen had a "bend" in the outside portion of the bar that kept the bike higher off the ground if you laid the bike down.

RIVCO

I can attest to the strength of the RIVO bars. I have these on my bike. I layed it down after hitting a dog at 40MPH and we slid for 90 feet on asphalt. Well, the bike slid, I rolled a bit, and slid some. Bars protected the rad, engine and tank well. Still 3K damage to exhaust, bars, foot peg, handlebars etc. , but otherwise would have been a total loss. The insurance wanted to replace the bars with OEM. I made them put RIVCO back on.

RIVCO bars are far superior to OEM, IMHO.
 
Reviving an old thread. I have to replace my bars and the price looks like it's the same for both the factory and Rivco bars. Just not sure which ones would be stronger. The factory bars look like they offer more protection but the Rivco's look nicer. Any more thoughts on these?? BTW '05 Rocket.
