The stock pre 2014 Roadsters had power restricted in the tune by closing the secondary throttle plates, both for the stock and TOR mufflers. In 2014, Triumph unrestricted the tunes by opening up the secondaries 100% in all gears at all RPM except 4th and 5th above 4800 rpm. However, if you compare the pre and post 2014 tunes, the fuel and ignition tables are exactly the same. This means that for a pre 2014 R3, you can gain low end power by making the secondaries table identical to what it is in the newer tunes, regardless whether you have standard or TOR mufflers. The air/fuel should be the same as it is in any post 2014 bike.

Maximizing the high end power where the secondaries are still closed requires opening the secondaries and adding fuel at the upper end. This means retuning by whatever means to optimize power and A/F.

As to your question, the best way to optimize your fueling is to get your bike dyno tuned. Aside from auto tuning options, or for custom tunes made with a dyno for a bike with the same intake and exhaust as yours, using tunes floating around the internet is guess work unless those tunes were verified with dyno tests.

Mine is a 2010 roadster with tors , link pipe , pcv and ramair all fitted before purchase .
I have had advice and tune info from many great guys on this forum and greatly appreciated ! I am trying to understand the mechanics of it all before a date with the dyno next month . The more I understand , the less likely I am to be baffled by Bull**** on the day ! Knowledge is power .

Since you have a guy to tune your pcv, just make sure the secondaries are open 100% before you bring it in. If you can't do that with Tuneecu, maybe the tuner can. If he can't, you could take off the Ramair and remove the secondary throttle plates. I and many others did this before these ECU hack programs existed.

Of course, optimal results depend on a good tuner.

That's great info . Thanks . The dynapro tuner said he will examine the initial run and then either map the pcv or write a custom map for the ecu depending on results and or requirement . He says he needs the bike for half a day to achieve this ! At least armed with your information I shall be able to talk intelligently with him using yours and others advice for guidance ! Just my two bobs worth...My 2014 Roadster. I installed ramair, tors with crossover, added PCV and had her put on the dyno. Ended up at 150hp and 134 rwhp. I over tightened the hose clips which hold the ramair onto the throttle bodies and broke the rubber thingys which fit over them, so I added K&N filters and chopped the bearclaw away making for good clean air. Apparently when the bikes leaves the factory they are rev limited to 6300 and speed limited to 185 kph...so a bike mechanic friend and I downloaded tuneecu and lifted the revs to 7150 and the top speed out to 250kph THEN overlaid the dyno tune back over that but increased the fuel at the top end to help with the extra revs. Now I have good strong power all the way thru to 200kph at least....havnt gone past that and don't intend to....things are happening fast when your up there.I just love the rich sound and tremendous pull she has.

My bike is murder fast mid to top gears and I have taken it 140mph on the speedo , allow for bout minus 10mph calibration and I have easily made 130 , not just for a second but for minutes with more to spare !
The problem is the lack of power in first couple of gears . This hopefully will be addressed by the tuner . I am soaking up information from you guys on this site ( Hanso is a legend ) ! In the meantime , the dyno run will show me the fueling and power curves before and after and hopefully give me a sound base to work on for future tunes ? (That's my thinking on the situation , please feel free to correct me if I am wrong ) ! I will eventually use tune ecu if I am advised by you guys that it is preferable to the pcv !
