Drive shaft spline lube

IRR 3 is correct. Honda discontinued it's excellent and affordable (about $13 US) Moly Lube a bit over two years ago with a product that is not even remotely its equivalent. Around the time they announced the discontinuation of the good stuff, I purchased the last two tubes of it that I could find and I have enough left for about 4 more tire changes/spline lubrications. Shortly after it was out of production I saw online prices for a single tube of Honda Moly Lube shoot up to about $50 US!!!

That Loctite LB 8012 product (if it is actually 60%+ Moly) looks like a good deal. Please keep us posted on its performance!

Seems like LB 8012 is known in the US as Loctite item 51048 in an 8 oz. can and 51409 in a 1 lb can...

Best deals I could find:

Loctite 51049 1lb Moly-paste Low Friction Lube in Brush Top Can | eBay

Buy Anti-Seize Compounds - Free Shipping over $50 | Zoro.com

Loctite it is then!

Thanks for all the replies and I am sorry to have started such a boring thread. This site is absolutely fantastic and knowledgeable.
The contradiction on the spec. sheets for these greases is stunning, but it looks like the molylube may only be 6% moly if that. It seems Loctite LB 8012 is the one although it looks like it comes in a large pack that I won't ever use within the expiry date time limit. Still it's better than having to replace the final drive shaft etc.

Not boring at all Mike. It's really odd that the specific product required for a bike made in the UK is only available from the USA and if bought here is twice the price than if you ship it in?? Really bizarre :confused:

That 8 oz. package (try Amazon or eBay in your home country) should get you 3 tire changes or one application every 10,000 miles, uhhhh, I mean every 16093.44 kms, whichever comes first, Mike. If it's stored properly, as airtight as possible, I wouldn't be overly concerned with the expiration date.

No apologies warranted, mate, as lubing one's splines is an essential servicing that could cost one very dearly if not done at proper intervals!

Yes it's unbelievable so many more products are available in the US that originate from the uk and we end up paying more for them

Will do, thanks

Krytox Teflon Bearing Grease. Is the latest and greatest shaft grease available. The most expensive but should last a life time from what I’m reading.
