Do Crash Bars Protect Much?

I crashed mine a couple of years ago. Going 25kph and hit a patch of diesel on a bend in the rain . Had I have had crashbars on I would not have done $14,000 worth of damage to my bike trust me you don't have to damage a great deal of parts to cost big bucks. Most of the damage would have been prevented if the bike had just slid to a halt on crashbars .. PS I don't have crashbars on my bike but I do have agreed value insurance
 
Engine Guards (as they are known today - too negative to say crash bars) are worth every penny. Put them on everything I ride. Think of it as one of your insurance policies. Hope you never need it, but you got it "if" you do.
 
Yup, tipped mine over in a friends driveway the first day I got it Only damage was to my pride..... No one saw me but I did come clean on this site. Was a bizitch getting it back up on my own though.
 
Like T.C. no crashbars just insurance. And like T.C. I put mine down the road at about 80kph $6000.00 damage and I picked it up, prized the gear lever away from the cases and road it to the ambulance station. Got patched up stopped the bleeding and rode home. Crashbars would have saved a lot of the damage but I'm a minimalist. Or atleast I think thats the word that describes me.
 
Truth is even with $14,000 damage I could have straightened out a couple of bits and ridden my bike home .. except for my injuries.

Yes Bruce we are minimalists .. if it ain't going make it go faster, corner or stop better it's been removed
 
I had moment on a very wet round about, when exiting the round about I gave it a bit to much for the conditions, I went down and bike fell over onto the right side crash bar and went up the road about 15 meters, the only damage was a badly damaged crash bar and very slight scratches on the right muffler.
I had a fair bit skin off.
No way would I not have crash bars.

Me and stb was going thru town doing bout 30 mph and the idiot in front of me sped up to go thru a yellow and then slam on his brakes and stopped bout 30 ft from where he was suppose to stop and I tried to go to the left of him and a cop car and I hit the brakes and started sliding and hit the corner of his car lucky that the cop was a rider the guy hot 2 tickets and I got a totaled bike
The right fork was bent I think the front rim was to the radiator was hon my shifter and floor board and my right crash bar and saddle bag was scuff up but the engine was never hurt
Like I said they r a couple more pix of the bike in my photo album of the damage if u haven't already looked at them
Btw that is why I went to the darkside on my r3t I believe if I would have had a car tire on my classic that I would not have wrecked that day
 
After my last off the right side crash bar and radiator bent around so far it broke the right floor board in half. I would hate to see my right leg if I did not have them.

Too bad they did not have them for vertebrae
