I was wondering if someone might be able to help me solve my problem. I have a 07 classic it ran perfect on the way to work, but when I went to start her up at quitting time all is dead. When the key is turned on the gauge light up and go right back out, the tack and speedo don't move.. The battery has 12.77 volts the horn, blinkers and stop light work. Headlight and starter dead.. Any ideas?? It has a month of warranty left but the nearest dealer is 70 miles away.. Any help would be appreciated...

Yep. I was having the same problem. Try this. Turn on the key. Pull in the clutch, shift out of neutral and back. Then try the starter button. Let me know if she starts. Bet she will.

If Stripes trick doesn't work, you have a melted ignition switch which is far too common. Make sure you get all 3 locks replaced under warranty. Several threads on this issue. Search for ignition switch.
 
Thanks for the clutch trick stripes but no go( I sure was hoping )... I have been reading about the switch, and I believe that is my problem.. is there a way to jump it out so I can get to the dealer or is it trailer time..Thanks for the help Jimmy
 
Sorry it didn't work. You are probably right about the switch. I had that problem too! I'm getting a new switch in the upgrade. My switch failed while on a ride at a motorcycle rally last month in Alvaredo, TX. I didn't want to have to trailer back so I tore it apart right there in the middle of the event. It isn't the easiest switch to get to. I popped off the bottom of the switch while it was still on the bike. (I'm not smart enough to get it completely off.) And, low and behold, I found the power lead (white red) that had come unsoldered. (I actually brought the front wheel down a little too hard while showing off for the Harley riders and probably jarred it loose.) Anywhos, I had a battery operated soldering iron and did an upside down solder job looking up from the bottom of the switch. Got the wire tacked back on and then smothered the wires in the base of the switch with silicon sealer to help keep it in place. Made it home then hauled it to Baxters.

Thanks Stripes... I help build and develop game cameras if all I might need is a little solder job I will be riding to the dealer.. Another thing I think my rocket is pre 11/07 does anyone know what is the best way to get the dealer to go ahead and put in the updates..Problems is my dealer Deap South Cycles went out of business and have to take it to Jackson, and on the phone they didn't seem to willing. It has no rattles or weird sounds but to shift from first into second under a even moderate acceleration takes a lot of pry and a rather loud clunk. Thanks for all the Help Jimmy
 
upgrade

I doubt that the dealer will be willing to do the upgrade if all that you have wrong is poor shifting into 2nd gear. I think most have that problem. Unless your output shaft bearing is ground up and in the oil pan you are probably out of luck.

That happened to my 07 Classic as well. Hopefully the "replaced under warranty" replacement was engineered better and will last awhile.
