My friend Paul has a Triumph Rocket III Classic in combination with a Fast Gun saddle from Corbin.
From the very beginning he had problems with the idle, stalling and rough running of his engine.
Because the plugs were fouled the dealer changed them, hoping this would solve the problem. This was no solution. In the months following the dealer tried all kinds of experiments to improve the motor management, such as new software, TP-sensor and the idle/stall fix. Nothing worked. After a few hundred kilometers the problems started again and again. Until someone realized, that the engine was running rich and had not enough or proper air intake. So the suspicion went in the direction of the Fast Gun saddle of Corbin, which was not properly formed underneath like the stock seat was. Paul installed his stock seat again for final proof. That was delivered the past 2 weeks when we made a trip of 5000 km through Europe without any mechanical problems.

I think this is sufficient proof, that the Fast Gun saddle is not helping the air flow and is therefore unsuitable for installing on a R III Classic. During the International meeting of the German Rocket III Club (http://www.rocket3.org/) in Bad Brückenau from 5-8 July we counted 60 Rockets, but no one had a Fast Gun saddle. For the benefit of the other Rocketeers with similar problems I want to fix this poll hoping we can induce Corbin to improve this model.

I agree with you that the Corbin seat is to blame. The underseat plumbing on the stock seat is designed to channel air into the underseat air filter. Less air in mix = richer mixture. May I suggest the outstanding triple K&N filter/secondary removal thread in the How-to forum? For $100 and two hours of your time the increased performance is incredible.

Cant believe the corbin would restrict the air that much , the air vents on the standard seat is very restrictive , its not like the corbin seals around the bodywork preventing the air flow :?

if it was restricting enough air to cause problems you would know it, I left a small waterproof pocket that holds insurance etc under the seat once and when it got near the intake I thought the bike was all jacked up.

it really chokes the bike out.

But if as you say the bike runs perfectly fine without the seat.......

if it were the case you would notice a HUGE difference in performance with or without the corbin seat

I agree, there is no way the seat could seal off the air, in fact, I believe the Fast Gun seat would be less restrictive then the stock snorkel, because the Fast Gun sits on top of those rubber gromits, which leave a space all the way around for the air to come through.

I don’t understand it either. But the facts were there. With the Fast Gun seat no problems the first 100 miles after tuning by the dealer.
Then the problems are beginning gradually. With the stock seat 3000 miles no problems whatsoever.

My idle problems started sometime after the tripple K&N conversion. OMG...I must be getting too much air!!!!

corbin seat idle stall ?

I have a 2006 rocket with a touring corbin seat. My bike has been back to the dealer twice for the idle stall problem. Its now back in for the 10,000 mile service and you guessed it, the idle stall. Plus now the idle will sometimes stick for a minute at 1500 rpms or so. I'm no mechanic, this sucks, the bike might have to go! :x
