If you're comparing with a Suzuki or Honda 4 or similar, they do seem very clunky, especially 1st to 2nd. As Stolly says, be positive and as long as it goes in and stays in I wouldn't worry.
Yep next oil chanve stuff some Motul 300V 15w50 4rt in her. Since your across the pond thats what I would recommend to anyone. Amything else will be like using note pad paper to whipe your arse.
Yes, they is clunky, but fun! Finicky getting into neutral & first if you don't have the proper clutch lever adjustment...about 2-3mm free play (not to be confused with foreplay).

If you think the Roadsters clunky you should try the older ones, just got all the bits together for a conversion, when in traffic, cars with their windows wound up here it and look at me funny (actually may not be the gears now I write this)....
