I read on this site that the canyon dancer would work well on the fbg. I don't think so. Seems like the handle bars on the r3 are not strong enough. The cd would sure make it easier to tie down the front. With the screen and lower deflectors there seems not to be much room to find a good and strong place to attach soft ties.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey, I've trailored my fbg up and down the east coast. I have soft ties off of the front, under the handlebar around the riser on both sides. I, too, have a windscreen and lowers and I've yet to have a problem with either. I have a wheel chock on the front tire and I run a strap through the rear tire pulling forward to keep the rear tire from wiggling and to keep the bike pushed up in the chock. I wrapped the strap (the one through the back tire) with foam pipe insulation (for the A/C piping) so that it doesn't abraid the wheel finish or rub through the strap. This method has worked for me for three years without incident.

One more note...

I don't use the S-hooks on the straps anymore as one opened-up the first time. I've since used carabiners (from REI) instead of the S-hooks and they work great.
