Can I have more HP on a limited budget?

I have an R3T. Can I get more speed with some simple and inexpensive modifications? Will changing the air filter to K&M increase the power? Can I re-tune my bike, or have it done, without changing the pipes?

More speed with little money. Can it be done?

I'm new too.

I've been here for a few months. My suggestion is to read read read. If you can't find the answer, there are those here that can (for sure).

Nitrous Oxide would be the cheap way out. Your engine won't be a high mileage unit but you'll have plenty of go power...for a while.

The K&N underseat filter will yield an improvement in power and mileage or should if you maintain control of your right wrist. if not, your mileage will suffer as well as your rear tire.

If you have about $300 to spend, I would get Tuneboy. That'll give you the most bang for your buck and come in handy later if you do get a different exhaust etc.

Otherwise I would remove the secondaries, maybe do the resistor mod.

Someone with an R3T also needs to see if the K&N RU-2780's will fit under the bearclaw cover like they do on the standard.

The 2780's will fit under the R3T bearclaw. You will need to turn the rear filter just like on the other models. The R3T uses two bayonette type mounts at the side and rear of the bearclaw. In order to fit the rear mount you will have to push the bearclaw firmly against that rear filter. It will fit but there is significant contact with the rear filter.

I fashioned a small bracket with adjacent holes the same size as the rear bayonette hole. I then removed the rubber grommet from the hole, attached the bracket with a nut and bolt, installed the grommet on the other hole in the bracket and installed the bearclaw. This has the effect of spacing the rear out a bit, similar to using washers on the Standard/Classic models. It doesn't look great as there's now a gap between the bearclaw and tank, but it gives a lot more clearance with only minor contact with the rear filter.

I have to disagree with the under seat K&N filter. With all of the restrictions from the stock intake plumbing the only thing it will do is lighten your wallet. Even the undertank one is good for only abot 3-5 hp.

Triumph TORS and the tune that goes with it will restore 17-20 HP depending on the dyno used according to a Triumph certif. tech I know.

You come to the rescue again. I've had that question posed to me and I couldn't answer it. I appreciate your input...as usual.:)

What gain can I expect from a Tuneboy. I assume it works like the F2000 or Power Commander? Is it easy to use? Do you program with a lap top? How much HP gain? Does it run or start rougher. Is it true that the stock tune is lean for EPA purposes? How hard is it to work with? I know how to do simple maint and repair. Is using the Tuneboy above my abilities? Is it easy to screw up? Do you mount it to the bike? Where is the best place to buy it?

Thanks for the help.

I'm sure there will be multiple answers to your questions. As far as purchasing one, I understand you can buy direct from the TuneBoy website and it is the least expensive as well. I believe it's www.tuneboy.com.au

I sell the K&N filters on my website. The AT sensor will need it's own filter-housing in the form of a 62-1560, the breather tube from the crankcase will need to be replaced with a 62-1340 because you are going to completely remove the OEM air box or use it as a toolbox after you pull the OEM filter..... and you'll need 3 RU-2780's, one for each TB. If Harry can fit 'em, so can you.
